Regulation on Remote Identification Methods to be Used by Banks and Establishment of Contractual Relations in Electronic Environment is Published
The Regulation on Remote Identification Methods to be Used by Banks and Establishment of Contractual Relations in Electronic Environment (“Regulation”), which was shared by the Turkish Banking Regulatory and Supervisory Board months ago, was published in the Official Gazette dated April 01, 2021 and numbered 31441.
According to the Regulation, only biometric data as special categories of personal data for remote identification of persons must be obtained explicit consent duly per the Personal Data Protection Law No. 6698 and must be recorded in the electronic environment. In addition, it should be ensured that the customer service representative receives the necessary training for the remote identification process and works in the areas where security measures are taken.
Regarding this remote identification process, it is necessary to use an identity document with security elements, photograph and signature that can be visually distinguished under white light. The Regulation declares how the identity verification will be made and which elements should be included in the verified identity document.
